While in her early 40’s, Unity’s co-founder, Myrtle Fillmore, was diagnosed with consumption (now known as tuberculosis). She was given only six months to live.  While attending a lecture by Dr. E.B. Weeks, a metaphysician from the Illinois Metaphysical College, she heard him say the following words:

‘I am a child of God and therefore I do not inherit sickness.’

She began a prayerful process of healing which included “talking” to each part of her
body and seeing it as healthy, whole and vibrant.

Because the power of prayer is foundational to the Unity movement, one key aspect of larger and well-established congregations is the presence of a lay ministry trained and committed to reaching out in prayer, comfort and support to our own Community.

Unity Church of Peace has continued to grow, and the development of our Prayer Team has played a key role in helping us meet the needs of our expanding congregation.

Our Unity Prayer Team members are trained:

  • To hold spiritual space during our worship services
  • To pray one-on-one with congregants
  • To hold congregants’ prayer requests in confidence, unless otherwise instructed
  • To make monthly prayer wellness calls for the spiritual health and comfort of our
    church members

All prayer requests are forwarded to Silent Unity, to be prayed over for an additional 30
days.
