The Mother of Unity: Myrtle Fillmore

As we gather all over the country this Sunday to celebrate mothers and the Divine Feminine, I thought it only appropriate that we focus our attention on the mother of the Unity movement. I have been inspired by Myrtle Fillmore since I first discovered Unity back in the 90’s. So humble, yet so articulate about the beliefs she held and how the healing work saved her life. Then she utilized what she learned to heal herself of Tuberculosis, and shared it over and over again until I am quite sure many thousands received blessings from her work.

It is often said that Charles Fillmore, her beloved husband was the head or brain of the movement and she was the heart, but I truly believe there would be no Unity movement if it hadn’t been for Myrtle to begin with.

There’s a chapter in the book Healing Letters, which is a compilation of Myrtle wisdom, where she says, “If we do not keep in touch with Spirit and heed its promptings, our unconscious desires will take us out of the ruts and leave us floundering on the rocks until we wake up and take hold of something that we shall find we like and that helps us and others.” To me she is saying we need to be tuned into Spirit and pay attention to inspiration all around us.

I hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we celebrate Myrtle and all the ways she impacted so many people to do their own healing work in their lives. As always, it’s better when you’re with us either in the sanctuary or on Zoom.

Blessings and love,
Rev D
