The Healing Power of Love

The theme the month of February is “The Flow of Love,” focusing on the Power of Love.
When I was seven years old, my little brother caught the mumps virus. And like all good mothers in the early 1960’s, my mom encouraged all us kids to play with him and keep him company, in the hopes that we would all get the virus and be done with it, or build up an immunity against the virus. Like a loving sister, I shared his pain and my face and neck swelled up like a balloon.

After several days in bed, feeling disgruntled because my girlfriend was learning to ride MY two-wheeler bicycle while I was sick, my mom came up the stairs to say I had a card in the mail. Quickly tearing open the envelope, I discovered a “Get Well” card from Aunt Franny, mom’s sister. In the card, she expressed the usual sentiments that I would feel better soon, and that she was praying for me. She signed the card, “I love you! From, Aunt Franny.” Not two days later, the fever was gone and the swelling had subsided. I felt confident that Aunt Franny’s card, and her expressed love for me, cured me of that virus.

Fifty years later, I came across a study that suggested that love, indeed, heals. In his book, “The Medium, The Mystic, and The Physicist,” Dr. Lawrence LeShan discussed studies on spiritual healing, especially in the modality of prayer. He said the common traits for the “successful healers” were that “they viewed themselves and the client as one, cared deeply for the client and made a shift in consciousness.”  There was no doubt whatsoever in my mind that Aunt Franny’s love and prayers for me helped facilitate my healing. My consciousness shifted that day as a result of her kind words.

Join us this Sunday, either online or in person, as we explore how the Power of Love does indeed heal.

Blessing you abundantly,
