During this fifth week of Lent, we continue to explore the theme, “Let Go and Let God,” focusing on the Power of Release/Renunciation.
Last year, the Unity Church of Peace leadership team attended a series of three classes called “From Understanding to Embodiment – Unlocking your Potential of the Twelve Powers (plus a new 13 th Power),” facilitated by Rev’s Bil and Cher Holton. With the explanation of each Power, they provided a nickname to help us understand and embody the purpose of each one.
They coined “Release” as “The Simplifier.” They explained that, with Release/Renunciation, we simplify our lives by releasing anything that is no longer serving us, physically, mentally, emotionally, and/or spiritually.
The Holtons continued that the release includes any ideas, beliefs, relationships, grudges, anger, worry, etc. We can release anything in our lives which is not sustaining and nurturing us in body, mind or spirit.
I love the idea of simplifying. I’m doing a little of that myself this month. In addition to the searching my inner world for debris to clear out, I’m physically doing the same thing. Shoes and clothing I no longer wear went to the Goodwill. Next up are the boxes in the garage that have been sitting there for almost three years, collecting dust. I decided if I haven’t worn it, looked at it, sat on it, or read it in the last year, I’m releasing it. And because I don’t want the vacuum in my closet or garage filled with more items I don’t
want, I’m just saying “no” to impulse purchasing, whether online or in stores.
Did you know that saying “no” is a function of the Power of Release? We can use our “no” in a variety of ways, whether to whimsical purchasing, or to those thoughts and beliefs that go down the old, tired roads of resentment and regret - we can just say “No!”
Join us this Sunday, either online or in person, as we explore how to effectively use the
Power of Release/No to live a more fulfilling life.
Blessing you abundantly,
Rev. Eileen
