As we complete our exploration on the spiritual Power of Will, we are also celebrating our Uniteens as they “fly up” to their next grade level in spiritual education. According to our Unity archives, we use this ceremony as a “rite of passage” for our children who are growing in strength and wisdom.
In older indigenous tribal cultures, families send their young teenagers on a solitary “vision quest,” which is shared with their greater family upon their return. Their life-vision is gifted to them by Spirit, by God. And their families celebrate the wisdom they received to prudently direct their lives into adulthood.
While we don’t send our children into the wild overnight for their vision quest, their spiritual education plants in them Divine Ideas from Spirit. Those ideas create a path for them to navigate their lives going forward, and we celebrate the completion of each milestone of their education.
The ceremony represents the bridge where their child-self is left on one side, and they step into a new self on the other. This celebration is a meaningful rite of passage which honors and respects the art of discovering each person’s inner spirit and serves as a powerful way to awaken and validate the “Christ” in our young people.
